Opinion // Miley Cyrus and the objectification of black women

Miley Cyrus' bizarre performance at the MTV 2013 VMAs was undoubtedly cringe worthy - but I wasn't shocked. Nudity and hyper-sexual behaviour are hardly new in the entertainment biz, are they?

Photography // Taslima Akhter

The photos below are taken from a collection entitled 'The Life and Struggle of Garment Workers' by Taslima Akhter, a Bangladeshi photographer and activist. She'd already been documenting working conditions in the Dhakar region when the Rana Plaza disaster occurred on 24th Aprl 2013.

Long time...

...no blog post.
Whoops, blogging seems to have been forgotten about in the final few months of university! I finished nearly two months ago, and am already missing writing on a regular basis. More than that, endless days at home punctuated by the occasional work shift means I feel like I haven't flexed my mental muscles enough recently. So, I'll be posting more regularly in order to rectify that!

Tabula Rasa

Firstly, Happy New Year!
With a new year comes a change of direction for this little blog. From now on expect to see a lot more art and photography! I'm entering my final semester of university (an utterly terrifying prospect) and I have a feeling creating recipes and experimenting in kitchen might take a bit of a back seat... I've done a few little drawings recently and was fortunate to receive a new camera lens for Christmas, so I think my creative side might be becoming a little less dormant, and looking at, creating, and discovering art and photography will be a welcome momentary distraction from endless essays and my dissertation...You can still expect the occasional recipe/rambling/book or film review though!
